ITINERARY

Your pilgrimage begins today by boarding your flight to Munich. Meals & drinks will be served on board. Relax and enjoy your flight. Your spiritual journey awaits in Germany!

Welcome to Germany! We are greeted at the airport by our local tour guide and will transfer to the city for a two-hour walking tour followed by Mass. We will settle into our hotel before our Bavarian welcome dinner (with beer and wine) at a local restaurant. Overnight accommodations will be at your hotel. (City tour participation depends on the flight time arrival.)

After breakfast, we will head out to explore Budapest! Starting at the Chain Bridge, we will drive to the Buda side of the city, stopping in the Castle District, where we’ll see the city’s main attractions. We will walk to the Matthias Church and the Fishermen’s Bastion. Next, we will tour Gellért Hill (Citadel), where we hear a brief overview of the last 1000 years of Hungarian history. Next, we will drive through the beautiful countryside to the village of Szentendre, where you are free to have lunch, explore, shop, or enjoy a coffee and pastry in one of the many local cafes. Next, we will continue to Esztergom Cathedral and celebrate Mass. Our ship awaits us in Esztergom for an 8:00 P.M. departure. Dinner and overnight on board the cruise.

This morning, we will wake up in the ancient city of Regensburg, founded nearly 2000 years ago. We will meet your local tour guide, who will take us to see the University of Regensburg, where Pope Benedict XVI taught theology from 1969 to 1977. We will visit St. Peter’s Cathedral, one of Germany’s most prominent examples of Gothic architecture. We will celebrate Mass in Regensburg before returning to the ship for lunch (included) or have an independent lunch (at leisure) on land. Afternoon, relax on the ship, explore Regensburg, or take an optional excursion to Weltenburg Abbey and Brewery (optional $ 49.00 ). Enjoy a festive Bavarian evening on the ship, followed by dinner. The ship sails from Germany to Austria. Overnight on the ship.

Today, we will arrive in Linz, Austria, board our bus, and depart for Salzburg, the hometown of Mozart and the “Sound of Music.” Upon arrival, you will enjoy a guided tour of Salzburg’s Old Town. View the Hohensalzburg Fortress, Mirabell Gardens, and Salzburger Dom (exterior views only). Following lunch, we will celebrate Mass at the Maria Plain Shrine, home of the miraculous “Virgin with Child” painting by an unknown painter, which inexplicably survived a fire undamaged. We will return to the ship for dinner and overnight accommodations.

Upon arrival in Emmersdorf, we will board our bus for a short drive to Melk Abbey, a magnificent Baroque-style structure surrounded by gorgeous Renaissance homes and winding streets reminiscent of the Middle Ages. The Abbey is the setting for Umberto Eco’s novel “The Name of the Rose.” Among the treasures kept here are paintings, sculptures, and art from the 9th to 15th century. We will celebrate Mass before returning to the ship for our typical Austrian lunch with a pig roast!  Your afternoon is free to relax on the ship and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Following an early dinner on board the ship, feel free to experience the “Sound of Vienna” classical music concert in a private villa.
